In addition to this 'Home' page, this site is divided into two sections:
Professional pages. I am currently an assistant professor of psychology at Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota. To reveal links that lead to content that is primarily related to my professional life click on the word 'Professional' above.
Personal pages. To reveal links that lead to material of a more personal nature click on the word 'Personal' above. The boundary between the two areas is a bit fuzzy, however, with professional content spilling over to the personal side to some degree. If you would like to avoid the risk of being exposed to potentially controversial views on education, computer operating systems, politics, religion, psychology, cats, coffee, or any other topic about which people often have strong feelings, confine your viewing to the pages in the 'Professional' section.
Why CharlesScrheiber.info? I will no longer be maintaining individual/personal pages hosted on the Winona State server. I chose to do this partly because it seemed discourteous to occupy publicly funded server space with large quantities of personal material -- particularly family photos. Also, although I have not had a strong desire to post politically-oriented content thus far, I wanted the freedom to express views that might not be legal to post on a server owned by a division of the Minnesota state government. Additionally, I wanted to make it clearer that the views expressed on my pages were solely my own: They do not represent the State of Minnesota, the Minnesota State College and University system (MnSCU), Winona State University (WSU), the WSU College of Liberal Arts, or the WSU Department of Psychology.
The decision to move my pages off campus at my own expense was entirely my own choice. No one has ever suggested that I do so or questioned the appropriateness of the content I stored on the campus server.
I confess to being a little embarrassed about the 'vanity' domain name, but it also seemed to be the most straightforward choice. Besides, what else would I call it? 'FreePizza.com' might attract more visitors, but it wouldn't fit the content very well! (Yes, the name FreePizza.com is already owned, and no, they don't have any free pizza).
Note 1: This site is a work in progress. Each summer, I try to find about a week to work on it. This summer (2009), I made some major revisions to the site's form and organization. This meant that I had less time to write the new content I had planned. It also involved moving to some new technologies that are still not as universally standardized as we might like. (It also involved 'hand-coding' pages which was slower, but much less frustrating, than using web development software). Several sections, therefore, are still awaiting content, and some sections may not work well with all browsers/platforms. The photo pages, in particular, may behave oddly, because they make use of XHTML and javascripts. If you encounter errors of format or function, I would like to know about it.
Note 2: Except where explicitly stated otherwise, I reserve all rights to all content on all pages located within the CharlesSchreiber.info domain name.
